After an adventurous evening of Kayaking, Leaders Steve and Nicky felt compelled to take their annual dip in the River Thames, closely followed by 25 Cubs!!
On Saturday 6th July 2019 the 38th Annual General Meeting of 1st Woosehill Scout group was held. The new campfire circle came into it’s own with Beavers, Cubs, Scouts and their families enjoying a great time singing campfire songs around the fire. Many thanks to everyone that attended and special thanks to those involved in organising the event.
Documents from the AGM are available here.
The Hawks Cub Pack competed fantastically in the Berkshire Scouts Dragon Boat Regatta coming second in both our heats despite competing with teams with more members in their boats. We had a brilliant time on the water and then ‘relaxed’ on the climbing wall.
The Hawks and Kestrels Cubs had a fantastic pirate themed 2019 Summer Camp at Runways End activity centre in Aldershot. We had great weather, lots of fun and adventure and enjoyed caving, kayaking, abseiling, campfire songs, space hopper races and ….. walking the plank!
The Hawks Cubs went to Go Ape in Bracknell and despite a downpour of rain everyone had a swinging time!
An inaugural group campfire was held on the 29th April to celebrate the completion of the new Fire Circle. The usual songs were sang around the fire whist steady stream of hot chocolate flowed.
Huge thanks to Steve and everyone who helped build the new fire circle and to all the leaders and children that came along to see it first ablaze and make it a special night to remember.
The 1st Woosehill Hawks Cub Pack attended the Pillows and Pilots camp at the RAF Museum in London this past weekend. Everyone had a great time.
Kestrels got a taste of the ‘Latin life’ when they experienced an Italian evening at their recent Cub session. Highlights of the event included making and then tasting their own pizzas and other Mediterranean foods, completing an Italian word search, playing ballgames popular with youngsters from that country and building structures using marshmallows and spaghetti – possibly how the Leaning Tower of Pisa was first inspired! The verdict on the activities was a resounding “brilliante!” from the Cubs.
Steve Capel was officially invested as 1st Woosehill Scout’s new Group Scout Leader (GSL) at the Group’s first joint campfire, attended by all Sections.
Steve joined new Beavers and Scouts as they took their Promises and reaffirmed that he would ‘do his best’ as he received the Group’s distinctive blue necker from youngest Scout. Following the ceremony, everyone gathered round the roaring campfire to sing songs and enjoy hot chocolate, marshmallows and cakes. A great way to mark a new era for 1st Woosehill, welcoming newbies to the Scouting family and marking the start of a new school year for returning youngsters.
Hawks and Kestrels Cubs joined groups from all over Wokingham to celebrate 100 years of Cub Scouts at a special District Camp. On Saturday 2nd July, more then 170 youngsters and Leaders pitched their tents in Arborfield to mark the occasion. As well as a roaring campfire and songs (including a choir!) on the Saturday evening, each Group was split into teams to compete against one another over the weekend in a series of fun and exciting activities. 1st Woosehill fielded three teams and their grit and determination was rewarded with all of them being placed in the top five and Team B claiming first place!
